MarinaSassuArchitects Inc. was first formed in 2009 as an all women architectural firm. The architectural firm model is often oriented toward a male idea of success and this felt pretty limiting so we came around to defining a new way to conduct this business. One could argue that definite progress has been made over the past 30 years, but we felt more needed to be done. The decision is up to us women. We can have successful, happy lives within larger firms, and as partners with men--or--we could go it alone. We decided for the path least traveled: to start our own firm! In addition to talent and organization, we're now offering ambition, grit, and a thick skin but also charm. While we are not Zaha Hadid, her success helped us to realize that a lone female architect can indeed create significant, even great architecture. So we cheered us on, while strapping ourselves in. We happily enter the race.
